PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Hope this message finds you and your family doing well and enjoying the summer safely.
Our adventure travel trip, lead by Steve Clark, left this week for a thrilling rafting trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Tennessee combined with Charleston, SC. Below are a few photos recently shared.
If you are looking forward to skiing, Bob Mackey is leading an exciting FSC ski trip January 23, 2021 to beautiful Telluride, Colorado. The Florida Ski Council will host dinner parties, lunch and the celebrated NASTAR ski race. For more details see Telluride Trip on the OSTC Website

Speaking of the NASTAR ski race our FSC Delegate, David Miller, has decided to retire from the OSTC Board. David has been a dedicated member of OSTC since the 80’s. He has served in many positions on our Board including being President. He continued service on the FSC Board. He was our NASTAR race captain since the 90’s and was instrumental in getting the racers trained. His devotion helped win the FSC Race Cup in 2018 and 2019—we brought the trophy home in back-to-back years! To read more, David was featured in the August 2019 Newsletter. David will be missed on the Board. He continues to volunteer his time and has agreed to be Race Captain on the Telluride Trip!
More FSC News! Congratulations to our Parliamentarian, Shelley Daniel, who has been elected as the President of the Florida Ski Council! Shelley has been an active member of our Board, Past President, and has been serving the Council in every capacity on their elected Board for years now. We couldn’t be happier to have one of our own as FSC President. Congrats again Shelley!
Mark your calendars!!! OSTC is planning a special event on September 13, 2020 at Wekiva Island in Longwood where our members and friends can enjoy food, canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Wekiva requires guests to abide by the CDC guidelines – facial coverings and social distancing…more to come.
Your OSTC Board met last week to approve the budget and to plan for the new year. We budget for annual contributions to two charities: The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind (FSDB) and Veterans Adaptive Sports. Both use the funds to assist in sending those with disabilities to the ski slopes. It is amazing to witness how skiing helps to improve and build their confidence and independence. We would like to share a thank you message from FSDB. (See letter below)
Our Travel Committee will be meeting in August to discuss the viability of offering more ski trips. The Committee will need to consider many factors - destination, cost, amenities, trip leader availability, member interest and the current environment. More details to come at the September event at Wekiva Island!!!
Until next month, be deliberate in activities that are positive, heartwarming, stress reducing and laughter inducing! Together, we’ll get through this.
Rhonda Ulmer
President
